Coin-O-Matic’s History
Coin-O-Matic’s parent company, Harry Miller Appliances, was founded by the late Harry Miller, who built the business from the ground up—selling washers and dryers door-to-door from his Ford Model T pickup. His relentless work ethic quickly expanded operations, leading to the first full truckload purchase from the then-young Speed Queen Company. During the Great Depression and World War II, Harry kept the business alive by manufacturing his own replacement parts and pioneering coin-operated laundry by installing coin meters on wringer washers—earning recognition as one of the earliest innovators in the industry.
In the late 1950s, Harry’s sons, Bill and the late Bob Miller, joined the business and helped launch Coin-O-Matic Equipment Inc., focusing on the rapidly growing coin laundry market. Their efforts fueled decades of expansion across Chicagoland, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana. Today, the company is led by Harry Miller’s granddaughter, Maura Miller, who continues the family legacy with a deep-rooted understanding of the industry and a commitment to serving modern commercial and coin laundry customers.
